Brave Honey Bee

Cute arcade game, quite obviously influenced by the bee section in Cactus' Psychosomnium. Fly a bee through a series of spikey tunnels and platforms (and various other obstacles). Far more forgiving than the original (with a well balanced difficulty curve) and quite polished.

Debrysis

A polished arena shmup, which uses a combination of mouse and keyboard controls with a healthy dose of power-ups and a variety of arenas to choose from. Graphically pleasing with straight forward, solid gameplay mechanics.

Globotwars

Geometry Wars-esque shooter: fly around an arena blowing abstract enemies up before they catch you and drain your energy. Pretty polished, although the controls seem awkward to begin with.

Bonesaw: The Game

A retro-ish platformer, starring a hockey player that mixes run'n'jump, beat 'em up (including a hockey stick on occasion) and a little puzzle solving. The game mechanics are polished and just plain fun.

Super Hamster Air Combat

A mini-shmup. You control a flying hamster and you must destroy as many of the hamster tanks and planes as possible. The replayability factor comes from the want to beat your last score because the game itself begs for more variety.

Red Valkyrie

A top down, 3D shmup that throws dungeon crawling into the mix. The controls feel a little slippery at first but once you get a handle on them, the game becomes quite enjoyable, if a little repetitive. Completing various missions will give you funds to upgrade your ship with new weapons and stronger armor.

Winter's Heart

A top down arcade game. You must not only defeat all the enemies in each level (by rolling snowballs, batting the snowballs into them and giving them a whack with your club) but you must also close the portals via which they come through (using snowballs), otherwise they will keep coming. The mechanics are clever enough to make you want to keep playing even though the game itself is really quite hard.

Last Scenario

I'm not a huge fan of RPGs - I tend to find it hard to make proper time for them and hard to get into them if I ever do get time. Having heard so many great things about this game, I had to make time and this top down RPG didn't disappoint. Superbly polished graphical appearance, accompanied by a simple-to-use interface and an easy-to-understand combat system. It feels very smooth and inviting to play.

Space Troy

From the developer of Banana Nababa and Poyo comes an engaging, retro-styled but generally straight forward shmup. The soundtrack and its 8-bit(ish) graphical appearance are what will suck you in. Certainly not Lazreal's most creative work but solid, playable and stylish as always.

Crumble!

A minimalistic arcade game: dodge the rubble and collect the required amount of gold to advance to the next level. Graphically, the game consists of a bunch of coloured blocks (brown for rubble, yellow for gold and the blue block is you), while the sound is a serious is rhythmic bleeps. These elements give the game its beauty and style.

The Jeluvian Project

A mixture of strategy and action. You get to guide your squad on various missions (using the mouse). You can aim and fire instantly but you have to make your decisions carefully (running recklessly in a Rambo-like fashion through a map will generally not cut the mustard). The interface and controls are easy to pick-up for the most part, although the cutscene dialogue does get a little tiresome.

Mage-X

A puzzle platformer (more puzzle than platform), in which you have to collect the key and get to the exit, while killing enemies, avoiding obstacles and solving puzzles. Seems a little uninspired at first but once you get past the tutorial, it has a little more visual flare and challenge.

YOU FOUND THE GRAPPLING HOOK

A platformer that mainly involves using your grappling hook to swing from one platform to the next, until you reach the next screen. The physics are a little hard to get used to at first but if you strike a rhythm, you can progress quite fast. Graphically simple but completely effective.

Foshizzlenakpeeyuyu

A neat, retro-ish side scrolling 'kill everything that moves' type B-game, complete with power-ups and guardians. You even get to ride a motorcycle. The blocky graphical appearance and chunky sound effects just add to its B-game charm.

Space Barnacle

A beautifully crafted, intentionally B-grade platform shooter. Run around, blast enemies, collect the glowing green things from the robots that you destroy and move on to the next section. Fun, fun, fun.
